Help students explore their futures with College & Career Exploration Month!
We invite you to host a College & Career Exploration Month this March, a new initiative from Oregon Goes To College. All high school students are welcome to participate in this exciting opportunity to explore their future paths.
When: The month of March
Who: Oregon high schools (coming soon for middle schools)
The struggle is real
Many students struggle with planning their futures after high school. The 2023 ECMC report, "Question the Quo," shows that:
- 66% of high school graduates wish they had more career exploration opportunities in middle and high school.
- 78% of high school students want to have career plans before graduating high school.
- Only half of students receive the guidance they need.
Early career exploration allows students to:
- explore new paths and identities with little risk
- stay engaged and satisfied with school
- build confidence
- gain essential life skills to make informed decisions for their future
Why we are launching College & Career Exploration Month
College and career planning for students should be an ongoing effort throughout the school year. This month is designed to enhance, not replace, your current college and career programming.
With the passing of Senate Bill 3, all high school students are now required to earn 0.5 credits in higher education and career path skills. We believe this month can support schools in meeting these new graduation requirements.
Make it your own
Each school is unique. Your College & Career Exploration Month could be a targeted week, a day, or a few days spread throughout the month.
