In the News: Oregon Teens Encouraged To Think Beyond High School College Application Week

La Pine High School will be participating in College Application Week, and their local radio station called CAW staff to learn more:

Over the next two weeks, the state will work with students and parents across Oregon to help young people apply for college.  Adrienne Enriquez, Oregon College Application Week coordinator, told KBNW News this is an ideal time to plan for college, plan for saving and to apply.

In the News: Encouraging First-Generation College Students

Skyler

As you know, Oregon College Application Week is part of a national initiative sponsored by the American Council on Education. Started in just one North Carolina high school in 2005, the American College Application Campaign now has a presence in almost every state in the nation. The Pew Charitable Trusts recently wrote about the importance of this national project on their website. And we are honored that Oregon was one of the states selected to be highlighted in the article. Here's just a bit from the opening paragraphs:

In the News: KCC hires first admissions director (who will present to students during CAW)

Having a new admissions director means increasing the opportunities for outreach. The new director will work with KCC's High School Outreach Coordinator, Ann Strunk (who is also a member of the CAW Steering Committee), to build a college-going culture in Klamath County. And,

College Application Week is...

We learn so much from watching what you do! One of our favorite finds so far this year comes from Hermiston High School. They've put together a list of what College Application Week is - and isn't. Check it out!

Scheduling your CAW week

One of the things I love most about College Application Week is that it's intended to be customizable to each school, site, or community. No two CAW events look exactly the same because no two schools, sites, or communities are exactly the same. But that doesn't mean folks can't learn from each other, swap ideas, and implement successful elements of other sites' good work.

A few days ago, I posted Taft's schedule of events for their CAW week. Today, I'd like to share what Parkrose High School will be doing.

The Oregon University System (OUS) announced today that Governor Kitzhaber has proclaimed that November is Oregon College Application Month. High school seniors and GED candidates at thirty-two high schools and community based organizations throughout the state will actively heed the Governor’s call to apply to college by participating in Oregon’s College Application Week, November 4-8 and November 11-15.
