It's Oregon Goes To College Month!

For the sixth year in a row, Oregon 12th graders are focused on applying for college and financial aid during the month of November. Oregon College Application Week and College Cash Campaign events will be held at 120 high schools across the state, with the potential to reach more than 20,000 students. The goal: to support seniors in completing applications for postsecondary education or training and financial aid with the support of caring adults during the school day.

For the fifth year in a row, Oregon seniors are focused on applying for college and financial aid during the month of November. Oregon College Application Week and College Cash Campaign events will be held at 112 schools and organizations across the state, with the potential to reach more than 20,000 students. The goal: to support seniors in completing applications for postsecondary education or training and financial aid with the support of caring adults during the school day.

College Application Week continues to grow and in its fourth year saw its biggest participation yet with more sites across the state hosting dedicated events to support seniors in applying to postsecondary education throughout the month of November. Coordinators Share Ideas in Debrief Sessions

Back in November, a few CAW coordinators requested an opportunity to talk with colleagues around the state. They wanted to share what went well, discuss their challenges, and hear others' ideas for making CAW 2015 even better. They wanted to wait until after they'd had some time to reflect on their November events and make it through the holiday break. Last month, we hosted several video chats in which we learned a great deal about what makes Oregon College Application Week so successful.


In the News: College application week spurs local students to get a head start on their future

Five high schools in Eastern Oregon hosted College Application Week events this year: Pendleton, Umatilla, Echo, Stanfield, and Hermiston. The Hermiston Herald visited some of these events and discovered why education after high school is so important:

[Hermiston High School counselor, Melody Bustillos] said by 2030, 90 percent of jobs will require at least some sort of training simply because of advancements in technology. She said that’s why introducing students to their options early on in their senior years is particularly helpful for students.
