Explore Colleges

A view of SOU's campus

There are many ways to learn about colleges, including in-person or virtual tours, information sessions, and talking with current students and staff.

WHAT TO CONSIDER

Whether you are deciding what colleges to apply to, what college to attend, or simply just exploring your options, your goal is to learn about the academic programs, student life, and financial aid opportunities available at a college so you can find a good college fit.

Some of the things to consider when exploring colleges include:

  • Majors & Programs: What are popular majors or programs? What are unique degrees that a college offers? What degrees does the college offer?
  • Cost & Financial Aid: How much is tuition and other costs including room and board? What percentage of students receive financial aid? Does the college meet full need?
  • Campus Environment: How many students attend? What percentage are full-time v. part-time? Can you live on campus? Does the school have a special focus or mission?
  • Location: Where is the college? What is available to do outside of campus?
  • Extracurriculars: What are popular activities, organizations, sports or experiences? What do students do on the weekends?
  • Support Services: What support services (like tutoring, disability services, or counseling) are available to students?
  • Graduation Rates: What percentage of students are successful in completing a degree?
